Pharmacy is truly a journey of learning.

I have made this website as a place to open opportunities for shared knowledge, connection and my newest adventure of Relief Pharmacy [RockRelief] in Newfoundland, Canada.

My hope is that you find what you are looking for here.

“The Rock”

Pharmacy at its basis has 2 main perspectives: SAFETY and EFFICACY of treatments for individual patients.

Safety: would include things like; Technical job (right drug, strength, dose, frequency, route etc), Side Effects (these can be harmful, and its best to determine which side effects are MOST likely to cause someones death or seriously harm them), Patient factors which may cause a drug to be less safe to give ex. kidney dysfunction for renally eliminated drugs, Drug interactions (can cause higher levels of drug in the body - which can be toxic - really watch more “dangerous” drugs).

Efficacy: Indication based, dosage, duration of therapy, drug interactions (can cause lower levels of drug in the body which would cause less dose to effectively treat the patient).

These are some of the reasons Monitoring during treatments are SO important because you need to make sure the treatment is SAFE and that it is working the way it should to benefit the overall health of the patient (EFFICACY).

This is the perspective of my summaries - what can harm someone with side effects and what can harm someone because they are not treated effectively [Risk vs Benefit}. At the core I would suggest that the Canadian Healthcare is “do minimal harm through medications to effectively treat a condition that could potentially cause death to a specific (patient centred care/every individual has certain health care needs that are different) patient.”
